Morgan Freeman honored at the Golden Globes

Morgan Freeman put it best when he accepted his Cecil B. DeMille award from Helen Mirren and Sidney Poitier at the 2012 Golden Globes.

“Looking at all those clips from all those films that I made over all those years, I was struck by two things: I got to play with people that I really, really admire, and how much fun I’ve been having,” Freeman told the star-studded audience.

“It’s been said if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life,” he said. “Well, if that’s the case, in the past 45 years or so, I’ve never had to work, because my passion in life has always been acting.”

And it shows.

The 74-year-old actor was honored with a montage of his four decades as an actor with clips from movies like The Shawshank Redemption, Driving Miss Daisy, Lean on Me and The Bucket List.

However, the biggest laughs came from Freeman’s role as Vincent the Vegetarian Vampire on The Electric Company.

“Some vampires like it in a bathtub, others have tried a sink,” he sings during the clip. “But when I’m flushing, I’m wishing to be washing in something that’s soft and lined with pink.”

It serves as a reminder that even the most serious thespian had to start somewhere.

Now, the popular actor is in a small group of actors honored by the Foreign Press Association.

“There have been 58 men and women before me who have received the DeMille Award… so I am truly, truly honored that you consider me worthy of being in that company.”

You deserve it, Morgan.
