J.K. Rowling to build Hogwarts treehouses for her kids

Five years after she left the Hogwarts world, Rowling is attempting to keep the spirit alive, at least in her family.

JK RowlingIt has been five years since J.K. Rowling finished the last of the Harry Potter series, but she is working on staying in Harry’s world for as long as possible.

The Rowlings, J.K. and her husband Dr. Neil Murray, applied to build a set of treehouses on their property in Edinburgh.

“The associated planners’ images are a Muggle’s Marauder’s Map of the site, revealing everything from turrets, a rope bridge and a ‘secret tunnel’ to a trampoline deck and a trap door,” said the Huffington Post. “For fans, the pictures immediately drum up memories of Harry, Ron and Hermione’s beloved alma mater.”

The treehouses are being built for David and Mackenzie, 9 and 7, Rowling’s children.

“The treehouses might not be built on the same imposing scale as Hogwarts, but, according to plans, the taller of them will approach 40 feet,” said the Huffington Post.

Some estimates of the project have the treehouses at over $200,000.

The city council still needs to approve the plan, but according to The Telegraph this should be no problem because of the intentions of the houses.

“A source at Edinburgh Council said: ‘It would be highly unlikely that J.K. Rowling will not get permission for these tree houses. They are only for her children to play in, she’s not seeking permission for residential permission for them,’” said The Telegraph.

When Rowling finished the last of the Harry Potter books, she spoke about how excited she was to continue to experience the Hogwarts world, including the plans for a theme park.

“[The park] will be amazing because it will be a place that I can take all three of my children,” she said, according to the Huffington Post. “The world hasn’t ended for me. So even though the books are done, I feel like I still have a connection to Harry’s world.”

Rowling’s first book for adults will be out in September.
