If you're thinking about getting pregnant or already are, you and your baby need plenty of vitamin D. vitamin-d-339789.jpgWhen you're pregnant your baby steals (in a sense) all the best nutrients you bring into your body first for herself before they get to you. For instance your baby loves the calcium you eat because it provides the nutrients she needs for strong bones. Research shows that the amount of vitamin D in a mama's body during the last trimester can have long ranging effects on your baby's bone health. Babies whose mamas took in less vitamin D tend to have less bone mass later in life than babies who have mamas that got plenty of vitamin D. Your body makes vitamin D when sunshine hits your skin -- but that's not a safe way to get vitamin D. Keep on wearing that sunscreen and instead eat vitamin D rich foods like milk, eggs, and tuna.
