When your little one is crying non-stop you start wishing you had psychic powers. Why is she crying? She can't talk, but, there are reasons your baby cries. She not just (usually) doing it for kicks. crying babyCheck out the reasons your baby cries and see if a solution to the reason helps. Her diaper needs changed: My son could sit around in a poopy diaper the whole day. Wet diapers, on the other hand, made him scream like a banshee. She's too extreme: Temperature wise that is. Often babies will cry when they're overly hot or chilly. She's in pain: Cedar had the pain cry a few times; it was always higher pitched than his "normal" cry. Once it was because his diaper was accidentally tugging his skin. Many babies are super sensitive. Check to see if there's something up with her clothing. After that it may be that she's sick. Check for fever and call your pediatrician. She wants to be held: Cedar didn't cry as much as many babies I've known. I swear (although, I have no scientific Cedar proof) that it's because I held him or wore him in a baby carrier non-stop. Babies love to be held. She's tired: This is a biggie. Babies haven't perfected self-relaxation. Try to rock her, sing to her, or lay down with her. She's hungry: You can always tell this cry if you're a breastfeeding mama, because she'll be rooting her little head around your chest as she screams. I'm betting bottle fed babes tend to root around as well though. She's terribly bored: Yup even babies get bored. Cedar's bored cry started fussy and if I happen to miss it would turn into real crying. Try playing with your babe if she's crying semi-hard, but not extreme. She's just feeling like crying: I have heard this from pediatricians and other parents. But I don't believe it too much. Mainly because of the holding issue. All the babies I've known who were worn most of the time cried less than their peers. A lot less. Still, we all do cry once in a while so it could be she just needs to let it out.
