As a parent, you'll find your own way. You'll make up some rules as you go along, or vary the baby rules you hear to fit your situation. That's perfectly fine, and shows that you're becoming a confident parent (go you!). That said, there are five baby rules you should never cut, change, or avoid... 1. Always put your baby on her back to sleep. 2. Never walk away from a child in a bathtub. Never ever forget that babies can drown in under a minute and in mere inches of water. 3. Baby proof your home. At the very least make sure that all drinkable/edible poisons (like cleaners, make-up, and bug traps) are up out or your baby's reach, and that all outlets have safety covers. 4. Always use a car seat. This is one rule you can't skimp on. Make sure you learn how to use it correctly and where to take it for a free inspection. 5. Stay with your baby as she eats. Of course you'll be with your baby to breastfeed or bottle feed. As she starts solids, you need to stay with her. Never hand a baby a meal or snack and walk away. It's a huge safety hazard. Babies eat fast and can choke quickly. Along with this, it's also useful to know how to help a choking baby.
