Sometimes it can be like pulling teeth to get your baby in at your pediatrician's office. Often you hear the dreaded, "Sorry, we have no open appointments today." Here's how to get an appointment right flipping now: Mention the big bad warning signs. DO NOT LIE. Fibbing is not cool. However, if your baby has been vomiting for hours, has had a fever that baby aspirin won't cure, a rash that's been present for more than two days, or hasn't stopped crying all day due to pain and discomfort, mention these issues. Use drama. Don't wait for a lull in your baby's crying, call the doctor while he's screaming. Bonus points if you sound weepy as well. Usually I like a peaceful life, sans all the drama, but emergency rooms cost a lot, and a little drama can go a long way with getting an appointment. Show up. Don't call ahead just go to your pediatrician's office. In most cases, you'll get in. There may be a wait, but they'll squeeze you in because well, you're already there. Calling gives the office room to say no. If you're right there, they'll see your sick baby and get you in. Call ASAP. If your baby has timed his illness well, call first thing in the morning. The second best thing to do is to call late in the day - scheduling folks are tired and less apt to fight. Toward the end of the day there may be people who have canceled appointments as well. NOTE: If your baby is super ill and none of the above work, go to the emergency room - better safe than sorry.
