CPR is done when a persons breathing or heartbeat has stopped. Times this might happen include suffocation, poisoning, lung disease, excessive bleeding, head trauma, drowning, choking, or injury. What is CPR?: CPR is a mix of rescue breathing and chest compressions. Without CPR what can happen:  If your baby or child stops breathing or his heart stops, and no CPR is done permanent brain damage or death may occur. If your baby stops breathing or his heart stops you MUST perform CPR until medical help arrives or until his heart rate and breathing return to normal. Who can do CPR?: Anyone. You can learn easily how to administer CPR. The best way is to take a class, but even without a class, you can learn. If you have no idea what to do, OR you're in the middle of an emergency and forget a step, call 911 and someone will walk you through it. When to do CPR: Right away. If you come across your child and he's not breathing or his heart has stopped start CPR immediately. Brain damage can occur in as little as 4 minutes and death can occur after 6 minutes without CPR. How to do CPR: See if your child is responsive. If your child is non-responsive, yell for help and tell the helper to call 911. IF you are alone. Perform CPR for two full minute, then quickly call 911, and get back to CPR. See how to do infant CPR - with visuals and a video. See how to do child CPR - with visuals and a video. The visuals above will give you everything you need to know in order to perform CPR. Honestly though, a real CPR class takes less time and costs less than a date night with your partner, and is fully worth it. You'll get certified to save your own child's life. What could be worth more than that? [image via here]
