What is up with all the recalls? First the big Graco crib and Simplicity crib recalls now a ton of children's over-the-counter medications have been recalled as well. McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a unit of Johnson & Johnson in consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is voluntarily recalling a huge amount of NON-EXPIRED over-the-counter (OTC) Children’s and Infants’ liquid products manufactured in the United States and distributed in the United States, Canada, Dominican Republic, Dubai (UAE), Fiji, Guam, Guatemala, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, and Kuwait. Why the recall? The FDA cites manufacturing deficiencies, as the reason for the recall, noting that no adverse health reactions have yet been reported, but that the deficiencies may affect the potency, purity or quality of the products. Additionally some of the medications may contain more of the active drug ingredient than they should which could harm your infant or child. The recall involves all unexpired lots of seven products in 43 different flavors and sizes. These include Tylenol Infants’ Drops, Children’s Tylenol Suspensions, Infants’ Motrin Drops, Children’s Zyrtec liquids in bottles and Children’s Benadryl Allergy liquids. See a full list below. What to do: If you have any of these medications in your home, you should discontinue use. Consumers can contact the company at 1-888-222-6036 and also at McNeil product recall.
