|When it comes to your baby's nursery, you might think there's too much to do and too little time! We have good news for you: Getting started on your nursery project is as easy as A, B, C...||
Pregnancy seems to last forever, until it's over -- then it seems to have gone by in a flash. For many moms-to-be, pregnancy is the time to start cross-stitching a baby sampler or assembling a quilt. Mementos like these are lovely, personal additions to the nursery and will become treasured heirlooms.
Some modern moms with a sentimental streak make belly casts during their pregnancies and display them in their babies' nurseries. Artist and professional maskmaker Francine Krause of Occidental, California, explains that a belly cast is an heirloom sculpture created right on your pregnant torso in a simple one-hour process. Made of plaster gauze, it is an exact replica of your pregnant form. She notes, "Women are making belly masks as a celebration. It reveals the wonder of pregnancy and is a gift to your child, expressing the love you felt even before your baby was born."
A less labor-intensive keepsake might be a hand-painted personalized picture frame for baby's earliest photos. Consider making a plaster impression of your baby's chubby fist to put on display. Also save room for those mementos that you might receive as gifts after the baby is born, such as silver cups and picture frames, music boxes and wall hangings.
