Planning to breastfeed? Chances are you are going to have to feed your hungry baby in public at one time or another so why not prepare how you will handle it ahead of time? Here are some quick tips to keep in mind. 1) Always have a receiving blanket in your diaper bag. Use it to place over your shoulder and loosely cover your baby as he nurses. If your baby doesn't like to be covered, consider using a sling and special nursing shirts when you are out and about.

2) Try to find a quiet spot. This way your baby can concentrate on eating and not be distracted by the noises around him. Older babies tend to pull off the breast -- leaving you exposed to the world -- to see what's going on around them.

3) Nurse in the car BEFORE you go in to the store. That way you have a satisfied baby -- at least for a few hours -- and you won't have to quickly find a restroom or another area to nurse him in.

4) Practice ahead of time! Sit in front of a mirror with your baby and make sure you are covered up the way you feel most comfortable. If you don't feel the need to cover up and go a la natural, then go for it!

5) If people stare, so what! Remember, you are feeding your precious baby. Who cares what anyone else thinks! You have the RIGHT to nurse your baby! PregnancyAndBaby.com
