For your hair

Ever been in the position of having to shower at night but not having enough time to blow-dry your hair before crawling under the covers? Many of us have. You often wake up with hair that is clean but not looking as styled as you would like. The next time you have to go to bed with damp locks, take a moment to perform these steps:

  1. Beginning at the front right side of your head, twist your hair away from your face, slowly picking up more hair as you go. Secure at the base of your neck with a bobby pin. Repeat on the left side.
  2. Take the remaining hair and twist it into a bun. Secure it with pins or an elastic.
  3. When you wake up the next morning, remove the pins and gently run your fingers through your hair to loosen it up. You may need to curl a piece or two with a curling iron, but for the most part, you should be good to go!

For your hands and feet

If you’re constantly dealing with dry, chapped hands and feet, nighttime is the perfect opportunity to work on those problem areas. During the day, our extremeties are exposed to far too many things for them to stay moisturized. Moisturizing properly at night gives your skin hours’ worth of time to soak in the extra water, which it can then hold on to throughout the day. To make the most of this opportunity, thoroughly cover your hands and feet with a heavy moisturizer. Then place your feet in socks and your hands in gloves that you are able to sleep in comfortably. You don’t have to do this every night, but an occasional intense moisturizing period will help give your troubled skin time to heal.

For your face

Using a face cream specifically formulated to be used while you sleep can be a good investment in your skin-care routine. Day creams often contain SPF, which is great for when you’re out in the sun but not necessary while you sleep. Night creams can be specially formulated to provide deep moisture and even anti-aging benefits. Some of the ingredients used to offer these benefits can irritate sensitive skin when exposed to UV-rays so applying a cream that contains them during the evening and washing it off come morning is a great way to reap the rewards while you sleep.

With just a few simple tweaks to your nightly beauty routine, you can wake up feeling rested and with an extra dose of va-va-voom!
