6 Tips to fight cellulite

Research shows that 90 percent of all women have cellulite — collections of fat that expand and push against the skin’s connective tissue, resulting in a cottage cheese appearance. Although there is no permanent cure for cellulite, here are a few tips to help fight those dimples.

How to hide cellulite

1Dry brushing

Dry brushing helps tighten the skin by increasing blood flow and circulation, which in turn moves toxins and lessens the appearance of cellulite. Dry brushing also removes the top layer of your skin, resulting in smoother and softer skin.

2Lemon water and apple cider vinegar

To reduce water retention in your body (which can make cellulite look worse), drink lemon water throughout the day. Another home remedy is to drink 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in 8 ounces of water each morning.

3Coffee and cream

Most cellulite creams contain caffeine, which has been proven to reduce the appearance of cellulite. To make your own cellulite treatment at home, finely grind some caffeinated coffee. Add it to your regular body lotion and massage into the areas that have cellulite. The theory is that caffeine increases blood flow. Caffeine is related to aminophylline, which is a prescription medication used to open the airways and increase blood flow. Therefore, if blood flow is increased, cellulite can be broken down and removed.

4VelaShape

VelaShape is an in-office medical treatment that uses bipolar radio frequency combined with optical energy (termed elos technology) with vacuum and manual massage to smooth the skin’s surface and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Generally, four or more sessions are required to see results.

5Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy targets problem areas with microinjections of homeopathic or conventional medicines, vitamins, minerals and amino acids. These “cocktails” are injected into the middle layer of the skin to treat problem areas by breaking down the orange-peel appearance of the skin and creating a smooth surface. Generally, 10 to 25 sessions are required to produce results.

6Tone and tighten

Probably the best cure for cellulite is exercise. Toning exercises such as lunges and squats help tone the muscles and reduce fat on the body. Ballet-inspired workouts using a barre are excellent for toning and lengthening the muscles. Keep a healthy body weight, too: Yo-yo dieting can loosen the skin and make you prone to cellulite.
