Hot jewellery looks for spring

Taking a cue from the Spring 2012 fashion collections see what jewellery trends are making a splash this year.

Dolce & Gabbana - Fashion Week Spring 2012

Tribal Inspiration

Crafted with the tribal spirit in mind, tribal inspired accessories were a hit on the runway again this year. Designers such as Michael Kors and Donna Karan have accessorized their spring collections with jewellery pieces reminiscent of global tribes. Natural wooden bracelets, large primal necklaces made with leather, wood, metal and horn or patterns in natural or interesting colours are all indicative of this style.

Rock the bangle

Bangles and bracelets are taking center stage this season and bringing with them the attitude of the more, the merrier. Available in almost any colour, style or material, this popular item is reaching new heights. Stacks of layered bangles were spotted accessorizing many designer’s spring line collections including Caroline Herrera and Fendi.

Colour blocked

The spring trend of colour-blocked fashion has transcended its fabric roots and migrated to accessories where jewellery designers are following suit. Fabulous earrings, necklaces and bracelets in bold, bright colours were showing up and brightening the collections of such designers as Marni.

Revisited chandelier earrings

This large standout earring is back with a new twist. Not necessarily made of primarily metal and jewels like their predecessors, this similar type of drop earring has been made current again with the addition of bright colours, geometric shapes and flower accents. This updated version of the chandelier was seen in a number of collections including Dolce and Gabbana, Prada and Ralph Lauren.

Feminine touches

Jewellery with a decidedly feminine flair was also seen on the runway. Crystals, small scale chandelier earrings, flowers shaped pieces, pearls and art deco-inspired touches are all hallmarks of feminine inspired jewellery which was spotted accessorizing Chanel and Jill Sander.

Hair Jewelry

Pretty jewellery doesn’t stop always at the neck, wrist or ear. Jewellery designed to wear in the hair was making its presence known on the runway. Oscar de la Renta and Louis Vuitton were two designers that added a sparkly twist to the hair by addding jewellery.
