Braids aren’t just for little girls anymore. Modern takes on braids can help you hide a bad hair day or get fancy for a night on the town. Try one of these braids the next time you’re looking for something new for your ‘do.
Front braid
The front braid is a great way to get your hair out of your face and still look great. It simply adds a funky twist to the front section of your hair. If you’re growing out your bangs, this is a great way to blend the different lengths together without barrettes or headbands.
For the most dressed up look, use a French braid. Section off the portion of your hair that would be your bangs — you’ll want the section to be one to two inches thick. Start from one side and French braid across the top of your head. You can either continue the braid until you reach the ends of your hair, or stop once you reach the other side of your head, securing the braid with a barrette or ponytail holder.
If you’re in a rush — or if French braids just aren’t your thing — you can pull off this look with a simple braid as well. Just braid the front section of your hair, then pin it back and to the side.

Random braids
Random braids are a great way to make your hair look a little bit funky. Simply start at the part and create several random braids throughout your hair. To pull off the look, make sure to do the same amount of braids on each side of your head. It’s also a good idea to keep all of the braids similar in size. Don’t overdo it with this look — less is more — so stick to four or fewer small braids on each side of your head. Leave the rest of your hair styled as usual. Both straight and curly styles work well with this look.

Simple braid
The simple braid is a blast from your past, but it’s grown up just like you have. This is a great way to hide a horrible hair day, or a quick way to get your hair out of the way without piling it all on top of your head. Simply pull your hair over one shoulder, braid it all into one thick braid, then hold it in place with a ponytail holder. You don’t have to get too fancy with this look. Don’t worry if your hair isn’t divided into perfectly even sections. Varying sizes give the braid a fun and messy look.
