Sexy, sleek pony

Why not channel your inner Kim Kardashian with a sexy, sleek pony that’s pulled tight to the head? This style only takes a few minutes and looks super chic, says celebrity hairstylist Laara Raynier. First, spritz on a satin hair spray. Then comb hair back into a very tight, smooth ponytail at the top of your head. Once you’ve secured it in place with a hair tie, take a small section of hair from the tail and wrap that hair around the base of the ponytail. Fasten with a bobby pin or two and voila, you’re red-carpet ready.

Simple, high pony

“My all-time favorite ponytail style is a simple, high pony,” says Dan Sharp, Lead Stylist for T3 and owner of Danka Panka Salon in Brooklyn. “Whether you pull it back, clean and tight, or give it a little lift in the front with some light backcombing, you can’t go wrong with this elegant, feminine updo.” The placement of your pony is very important, though, says Dan: It should be somewhere above the occipital bone, but below the top of the head (ideally it should continue the line of your jaw). Like the sexy, sleek pony, you can wrap a small piece of hair around the base of the tail for a more high-fashion look.

Braided side pony

The braided side pony is quick, easy and perfect for day or night, notes Mindy Coffey, stylist and owner of salon644 in Columbus, Ohio. To get the look, comb your hair to one side of your head (whichever side you desire) and split it into three sections. Begin your braid at the base of your head, near the nape of your neck, and tie it off with a hair band when you’re finished. Spray hair to tame flyaways, and secure loose pieces with bobby pins if necessary.

Quick, messy pony

“A quick, messy pony is best for low, side ponytails,” says hair stylist Stacia Lance Gambrell of Lotus Salon in New York City. Start with a de-frizz product, then use a mousse or curling agent and apply it all over the hair. Quickly blow dry hair with a diffuser if you have time. If not, spray on a finishing spray and let hair air dry. This ponytail should only take a few minutes to do!

Chic, low pony

Another ponytail style celebrity stylist Dan Sharp loves is the chic, low pony. “This ponytail will give you a great, relaxed look whether you do it on clean hair or recycle yesterday’s blowout.” Simply gather your hair at the nape of your neck, put hair into an elastic, and then tug the hairs at the bottom to pull the ponytail in tight to your nape. This looks clean and simple on long hair, with random pieces falling out for layered styles, says Dan. Or, for an edgier look, backcomb the crown of your head, suggests Dan.
