Spring skin care switches

It’s been a long, cold winter, and you’re ready to shed your layers of jeans and jackets and bare it all for spring. As the weather warms up, update your skin care routine to let your springtime skin shine all season long.

Amp up your sunscreen routine

You know you are supposed to be protecting your skin with sunscreen all year long, but chances are you haven’t been as diligent about your sunscreen routine in the winter. There’s no time like the spring to get back in the sunscreen swing of things. Pick up a daily moisturizer that incorporates an SPF. If you are going to be in direct sun, be sure to slather your skin with at least an SPF 30.

Lighten up

Winter wardrobes lend themselves to dramatic and heavy makeup. During springtime, though, lighten up your skin care routine to include lighter/brighter shadows, bronzer for cheeks and shiny, glossy pink or melon lips. Visit a department store makeup counter to get some advice on how to dress your face for spring. Discover new trends and colors, and find out which will work best for your skin tone.

Give your diet a once-over

We’ve spent all winter inundated with Christmas cookies, Super Bowl snacks and Valentine’s Day treats. All that junk can have a major (negative) impact on your skin. Spring-clean your diet by cutting down on sugar and white carbs and loading up on fruits, veggies, lean proteins and whole grains. Don’t forget to chase your healthy meals with lots of water.

Protect your skin

If you’re going to be soaking up some springtime sunshine, you need to do more than just apply sunscreen. Protect your eyes with dark, oversized sunglasses as well as a wide-brimmed hat. You’ll be protecting your skin while looking oh-so-fabulous, dahling!

Try a DIY facial mask

A combination of honey, milk and a little sea salt is a fantastic facial mask that will leave your cheeks as smooth as a baby’s… ahem, cheeks.

Combat cellulite

Those dreaded bumpy, lumpy spots are every woman’s worst nightmare come bikini season. Break up those dimples with a homemade mixture of kosher salt and baby oil. Exfoliate skin daily with this mixture wherever cellulite is prevalent to break up dimply spots.
