Trendspotting with Jill Laine: Summer texture

Hello SK Style Watchers! Though fall and winter months bring us a bevy of rich and varied textures in our clothing, by their very nature, lightweight summer fabrics tend to be very one dimensional. Finding fabrics with extra depth and dimension will engage your senses of sight and touch, not to mention take your style up a notch. These three fabrics that I’m going to show you today are always feminine and perfect for summer. Right now, texture is on trend in a big way, which is why it’s my pick as favorite trend of the week!

Our pick: Hinge Lace Top, $88, Nordstrom.com

Lace

Lace in its typical form is very ladylike and elegant, but did you know you can also make it look urban and modern? To toughen up your lace, pair it with distressed leather boots, studs or denim. To keep it modern, wear it with your neon brights and layers of jewelry, or mix it in with your tribal or striped prints.

Our pick: Hinge Lace Top, $88, Nordstrom.com

Our pick: J.Crew Lucille Dress, sale, $90

Eyelet

This dainty, delicate fabric has an openwork, cut out design that used to be reserved for your lingerie or trim on clothing. Typically white, this year eyelet is back in these bright, vibrant colors that we‘re all so in love with, and as a fabric unto itself!

Our pick: J.Crew Lucille Dress, sale, $90

Our pick: Notte by Marchesa, sale $487, Net-a-Porter.com

Tulle

This fabric isn’t just for brides and ballerinas any longer! This spring, tulle re-emerged on the runways all grown up. I love tulle because it’s feminine and certainly cool to wear in our warmer summer months! Look for tops, dresses and skirts with layered tulle, and find it on other items as a design element.

Our pick: Notte by Marchesa, sale $487, Net-a-Porter.com

So there you have it, SK Style Watchers! Three fabulous fabrics that will add a tactile, extra dimension to your summer style.
