Robin Williams checks into rehab just to stay sober

Robin Williams is back in rehab after he checked himself to a Minnesota facility to stick with his long-term sobriety.

In efforts to remain sober and continue his long-term commitment to staying clean, Robin Williams checked himself into a rehab facility in Minnesota.

Confirming the news to TMZ on Tuesday, Williams’ rep revealed that the actor voluntarily entered a rehab program at the Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center. The Mork & Mindy star is said to be in the facility’s Lodge area, which focuses on helping patients to maintain their long-term sobriety.

“After working back-to-back projects Robin is simply taking the opportunity to fine-tune and focus on his continued commitment, of which he remains extremely proud,” Williams’ rep said.

The veteran comedian will be staying at Hazelden for several weeks now that he’s finished working back-to-back projects, including his new series The Crazy Ones. Just last Sunday, Williams was actually spotted at a Dairy Queen near the rehab facility where he posed for a photo with an employee.

Williams has struggled with addiction problems for years but managed to stay sober for two decades before falling off the wagon in 2006. He then entered rehab and admitted he was an alcoholic. He also admitted that when his friend and colleague John Belushi died of a drug overdose, it finally pushed him into giving up drugs.

“Was it a wake-up call?” Williams said at the time. “Oh yeah, on a huge level.”

Some of the many projects Williams has worked on this year include Boulevard, The Angriest Man in Brooklyn and Night at the Museum: Secrets of the Tomb. He will also star in Merry Friggin’ Christmas this December and is rumored to be starring in the sequel to his 1993 megahit Mrs. Doubtfire.
