Taylor Swift writes, sings, performs and thus, Swfit is the quintessential entertainer. Swift is not even 21 and has secured the honor of being named AP’s Entertainer of the Year!
The 20-year-old superstar told the AP, “I am so honored and so excited. This was so unexpected, and I could not be more grateful.”
Taylor Swift ranks among good company: last year the AP award went to Tina Fey. It’s no surprise that Swift won the award; her album, Fearless, held the number one spot on the Billboard chart for three weeks in 2009 and had eight songs on the Hot 100 chart at one point in time.
Her whirlwind 52-city North American tour with Kellie Pickler was not to be overshadowed by winning album of the year at the Country Music Association Awards and artist of the year at the American Music Awards.
As if she hasn’t had a big enough year, Swift will perform at the Grammy Awards on January 31 in Los Angeles. She’ll take the stage along with other headliners Beyonce, the Black Eyed Peas, Lady Antelbellum and Maxwell.
Swift has eight nominations and Beyonce has eight. You may recall at the MTV Video Music Awards Kanye West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speechand inserted his own opinion that Beyonce should have won for best female video. Although he later apologized, one can only wonder if West will be a presenter during the Grammy Awards and if so, if he’ll be presenting an award to Swift or Beyonce (or both!).
The Grammy Awards will be presented at the Staples Center on CBS. The academy has mentioned that additional performers for the program will be announced at a later date. One can only guess in addition to the show stopping performances there will be a lengthy and heartfelt tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
