Known for his cool demeanor and smoky good looks, Dominic Cooper plays the man Marilyn Monroe rejects in the new biopic My Week with Marilyn.

“I’ve had my heart broken, sure, everyone has,” says British actor Dominic Cooper, who portrays Milton Greene in the new biopic My Week with Marilyn.
The film takes a look at Marilyn Monroe’s trip to England in 1956 to shoot a film. It also stars Michelle Williams, Judi Dench and Kenneth Branagh. Cooper plays a character who gets his heart broken by Marilyn Monroe.
So… the big question is, did Cooper draw on any personal experiences in order to perfect the role?
“There’s certainly that sense of unrequited love, and it feels like it’s killing you,” he says of the emotions he tapped to get into the mindset of his character.
It’s unclear whether Cooper means his heart was broken by ex-girlfriend Amanda Seyfried, whom he co-starred with in the musical Mamma Mia! But he did say that drawing on his personal life was definitely, for him, the best way to tap into a character when shooting a film.
And Cooper has quite the list of period films, action movies and thrillers on his resume. Fans may remember him best as the slick friend in An Education and as the ever-so-serious Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger. In 2012, audiences will see him in the much-buzzed Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, a fantasy horror directed by Tim Burton.
