Tyra Banks: Top Model to Harvard graduate

Tyra Banks is preparing for her upcoming graduation from the Harvard University School of Business. Listen as the former supermodel shares some of her entrepreneurial inspirations.

From America’s Next Top Model to Harvard’s Next Hottest Business Grad: Retired catwalker Tyra Banks will soon be able to add Harvard University graduate to her impressive resume.

The beauty and brains behind the Emmy Award-winning daytime talk show and the mega-successful Top Model franchise is expected to graduate from Harvard Business School this spring. Banks made the headlines last year, when she enrolled in a course of study designed to teach students how to become entrepreneurs.

The course is part of the prestigious Ivy League institution’s Executive Education Program, which has no formal requirements for admission.

“Admission is a selective process based on professional achievement and organizational responsibility. We look for professionals who have demonstrated business talent and leadership potential,” reads a description of the course posted on the Harvard website.

The model, producer and best-selling novelist credits Virgin boss Richard Branson and animator Walt Disney for inspiring her business acumen.

“It’s OK to be vulnerable. Things don’t always have to be perfect,” Tyra said in a 90-minute chat with Harvard’s independent student newspaper, the Harbus, last week.

“You have a drive that the average person does not have. I’ve just started to take care of myself, and you need to do that, too. Don’t chase the money, even if you want to be a banker. Chase the passion. Chase the dream.”

But even Harvard hasn’t taught Tyra to be as ruthless as she looks as the queen bee of the America’s Next Top Model judging panel.

“[I] would love to have her in the boardroom. I wish I was hard … I have armor, but a strategic knife can still get in those creases.”
