Raspberry ketones: Nature’s new fat burner?

The key compound found in raspberries, which gives the fruit its aroma, may be offering us more than just a pleasant smell. Recent studies have shown that raspberry ketones increase the breakdown of fat.

A new reason to eat fruit

According to recent studies, your weight loss may be as easy as incorporating raspberries into your diet. Pair with these known fat burning foods and you may be able to eat yourself thin after all.

So how valid are these claims that raspberries are the next wonder food to burn fat? According to a study involving obese lab mice, the mice that were given raspberry ketones “melted off” more body fat than those who were on a placebo.

In addition to weight loss, the ketone in raspberries has also been linked to increase in expression and secretion of adiponectin. Adiponectin is a protein hormone which stabilizes and oversees a number of metabolic processes, including glucose regulation.

Stay full longer

Along with these studies, Lisa Lynn, a specialist in metabolic disorders and personal training, recently wrote a post on Dr. Oz’s website raving about raspberry ketones, stating they had the effect of “keeping you fuller longer” and were able to block fat, carbs and sugars from being turned into extra pounds. She also wrote, in another article, that raspberry ketones push the body into a fat-burning zone. Read Lisa Lynn’s article here.

So how quickly will this news travel to popular drug manufacturers and diet pill producers? The verdict is still out there, but expect to see more studies done soon. You can also expect to see a higher price tag on your raspberries and less of them on the shelves, especially with America’s fascination with new fat burning foods and diets.
