DIY chandelier ideas

There’s nothing like a beautiful chandelier to impress absolutely anyone who comes to visit your house. But as beautiful as chandeliers are, some can cost up to $20,000! Even some of the cheaper versions can set you back a couple hundred dollars.

If you’re on a tight budget but still want to create a statement in your foyer or dining room, look no further than these easy, relatively inexpensive and just as gorgeous DIY chandelier projects.

Creating your own chandelier will not only save you money, it will give you a chance to add personality and flair to your home. Plus, you can truly make it one of a kind with fabulous materials like beads, wax paper, mason jars and even candle holders — the sky is the limit! Below are a few suggestions for some of the most popular DIY chandeliers.

Paper chandeliers

As easy and simple as this kind of chandelier is, it often makes the most profound impact. When creating a paper chandelier, you need to choose a paper that is sturdier than most, like wax paper, construction paper and poster board. Paper that is too flimsy will easily tear. The total cost of the project is less than $50, so get crafting!

Paper chandeliersWhat you’ll need for a wax paper chandelier:

  • Hanging planter basket
  • White spray paint
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • 1 – 2 rolls of thick wax paper (or parchment)
  • Iron
  • Glue gun and sticks
  • Circle cutter (you can use a cookie cutter)
  • Cutting mat

Bead chandeliers

If you want something sturdier than paper, try your hand at creating a unique and gorgeous bead chandelier. The amazing thing about bead chandeliers is they require less manual labor than some other kinds, since the beads are already constructed, and allow you to really make a statement with bright pops of color and funky patterns. Plus, this project costs less than $30!

Mason jar chandelier

These stunning DIY chandeliers are absolutely gorgeous and are not only perfect for a rustic, country cottage kitchen or dining room, but for outdoor and barn weddings. This look was popularized by Pottery Barn — but with their version costing almost $400, it’s no surprise people are taking to creating their own. To make yours stand out, spray paint the jars a crackle pattern with crackle paint for an iridescent and unique look.

  • 21 mason jars — 6 large, 9 widemouth and 6 small
  • 18-2 lamp cord
  • #10 washers

  • Steel nipples
  • Small hose clamp
  • 4 keyless sockets
