Just because you don’t have light in all the right places doesn’t mean you can’t have a collection of houseplants in your home. Just like some outdoor plants prefer the shade, there are several plants that do better indoors in low light.

  • Lucky bamboo–these small plants add a fresh exotic look to any room and can thrive in even a dark bedroom. Make sure it receives plenty of water.

  • Spider plants–one of the most common houseplants. It does well in average to low lighting conditions, and even artificial light counts.

  • Sansevieria–includes snake plant and mother-in-law’s tongue. Its spiky leaves give it an interesting look and it’s very easy to grow.

  • Nephthytis–also known as butterfly plant. This pretty green and white plant needs only 1 or 2 hours of light daily.

  • Philodendron–this indoor climbing plant is great for hanging containers in low-light corners.

Since there are plenty of plants that enjoy low light, you have no excuse for not adding houseplants to every room. Don’t forget notorious low light areas, like the bathroom and bedroom!
