If you’re like me, you probably have shelves, boxes and closets full of old books. Although they are nice to stack on a trendy bookshelf, too many books can start to look cluttered. Instead of storing them in closets and bedrooms hoarder-style, create one-of-a-kind clocks using your favorite worn and torn novels!
Grab a vintage hardcover off your shelf and create this incredible clock that you can display anywhere. This DIY also makes a great wedding prop for a vintage old-fashioned affair.

Materials:
- Old hardcover book
- Clock movement (you can buy one here)
- X-Acto knife
- Glue
- Scissors
- Battery for the clock
Step 1: Determine where the clock hands will go
Place one clock hand on top of the cover of your book exactly where you want the clock to be.
Place a dot where the clock hands will be so you don’t misalign the clock body with the hands.
Step 2: Hollow out the middle of the book
Trace the large clock movement (where the battery goes) onto the book pages. (Make sure the pointing part is facing up).
Then, using your X-Acto knife, begin cutting the pages so they are deep enough to fit the entire clock movement. This can take up to an hour or so, depending on the size of your movement. Cut the pages deep enough so that the book closes normally.
Remove the cut pages.
Step 3: Push a hole through the hardcover
Using your X-Acto knife, push a hole through the marker you placed earlier. Be sure the hole in the cover lines up with the pointing part of the clock movement inside.
Carefully cut out a hole that fits over the pointing part of the clock movement perfectly. This may take a few tries to get it to fit just right.
Fit the top part of the movement through the hole and shut the book.
