DIY Burlap tea candle luminaries

If you’ve got a few extra Mason jars or glass votives lying around and want to add a vintage touch to your home, tablescape or party, look no further than these adorable burlap tea candle luminaries. Made from pint-size Mason jars or small glass votives, burlap and tea lights, this trendy DIY is not only beautiful, it’s cheap and easy!

Not only are these perfect for spring and summer outdoor weddings, they are a great way to add some country charm to any home or tablescape. If you don’t have Mason jars or glass votives, a small glass cup, jam or small pickle jar will work just fine! Add some cute embellishment, like a baker’s twine bow or a lace ribbon, for an even more romantic look.

Materials:

materials

  • Pint-size Mason jars or glass votives
  • Mod Podge glue
  • Paint brush
  • Two tea candles
  • Two small glass tea candle holders (like these)
  • Burlap (enough to amply cover both jars/glasses)
  • Scissors
  • Twine, lace or ribbon (optional)

Step 1: Cut burlap to fit jars or glasses

Place your jar/glass in the middle of a piece of burlap and measure it to see how much you’ll need.

Cut your burlap so it completely covers the glass and has a bit of overlap to fold over.

Step 2: Cover the glass in glue

Using your paint brush and Mod Podge, coat the entire jar/votive in glue, except for the rim.

Step 3: Wrap burlap around the glass

Carefully wrap your pre-cut burlap over the glue and hold firmly in place until it sets.

With your leftover burlap, measure the width and height of the rim. Glue the glass portion of the rim and hold the second piece of burlap firmly over the glue so it sticks.

Don’t worry about it looking messy or a bit uneven — a ribbon will easily fix that!

Step 4: Tie ribbon around the rim

Measure out a piece of ribbon, lace or twine. Holding the jar tightly, wrap the ribbon or lace where the two pieces of burlap meet and glue firmly in place.

Step 5: Add candles and enjoy!

Carefully drop your tea candle (already in the glass mini votive) into the bottom of the jar.
