What’s your idea of a perfect vacation? That’s what we asked our readers, and the results were somewhat surprising.

A recent SheKnows poll revealed that readers would rather be spending their sunny days on the white sandy beaches of Bora Bora than well, pretty much anywhere else. OK, that’s not surprising. What’s surprising is that the next runner-up was a family vacation to Disney World in Orlando, followed by (and not closely) a romantic retreat to Venice, Italy. More people would rather go to Orlando than Venice? Let’s get our priorities straight, people!

Reader poll: Vacation picks

Vacations can improve your well-being

It doesn’t really matter where you go, what matters most is that you take a vacation in the first place. Another poll showed that most Americans take less than one vacation per year! Which is a shame because they are vital for health and happiness. Need a little more motivation? Here is why you should unplug for a week or two:

  • Vacations promote self-discovery and creativity; meaning you’ll be even better at your job when you do return to work.
  • Getting away reduces stress, which can cause depression, obesity and headaches among other things.
  • Escaping with your loved ones can strengthen your relationships and improve your marriage.

Whether you decide to sip margaritas oceanside, take a thrill-ride on a roller coaster or explore the culture of the Far East, you’ve earned a break — so get outta town!
