How to look like you spent a fortune on your wedding

Abby Larson

Fabulous wedding design doesn’t have to be synonymous with a huge wedding budget. There are so many unique and incredibly chic ways to make it look like you spent a fortune without breaking the bank. Whether it’s gussying up a rental or displaying expensive blooms in a way that says gorgeous, Style Me Pretty has you covered with a handful of easy ideas that will fool everyone into thinking that you’re a high roller.

Head table

Head table opulence

If your budget is tight, try to create a strong focal point with your head table. Gorgeous rented chair covers, stunning florals and an amazing chandelier should do the trick. It will look like you spent an absolute fortune without actually breaking the bank. Keep all other tables super simple with rented white linens and simple baby’s breath or Queen Anne’s Lace arrangements.

Sometimes all you need to add that look of luxury is a bit of gussying up. Adding fabric detailing, like hand-sewn fabric yo-yos to rented white linens will instantly up the style ante. These were made in no time at all — and with no real sewing skill — by folding a small piece of fabric on top of itself in a circle and then adhered to linens with a single glue dot. We love the idea of cascading them down your linens in total abundance. You can see a great DIY right here.

Create super cozy spaces that guests will love by bringing in throw pillows, rugs and even a fabulous chandelier from your own home or from friends and family. Creating these indoor-inspired spaces will add a sense of luxury to your design that guests will find unexpected and totally chic.

Choose one detail and go all out

Choose one detail and go all out

Whether it’s an amazing band or a gorgeous menu, choose one big-ticket item and really go for it. Skimp on other items whether it’s forgoing favors, serving a signature cocktail instead of a full bar, keeping flowers simple or doing an easy dessert in lieu of an expensive cake. Your guests will be so wowed by your splurge they will hardly notice the rest.

Make your flowers really work for you and your unique budget. If you have to have peonies, choose single blooms in smaller juice glasses or vessels to accessorize the table. Large bowls of fruit or a jam-packed arrangement of carnations will save you a bundle but will still create the foundation for your more expensive blooms to really sparkle.

The open bar can be a huge cost for couples so skip it entirely and go for a signature cocktail with passed beer and wine. It will save you a bundle and will also add a ton of personality to your cocktail options. Guests will love the idea of getting that something special.

Brand your wedding

Brand your wedding

The easiest way to add a feeling of luxury to your wedding day decor is to brand it. Choose a single icon, a monogram or a fabulous print and weave it through all of the elements of your wedding, from your invitations and programs, to your wedding cake, your linens and your decor elements. Have fun with this, whether it’s an amazing chevron print or a cute icon of your beloved pup, make your wedding brand something people will remember.
