5 Ways to keep cool during sex

Is there such a thing as sex that’s too hot? Nope! Is there such a thing as a bedroom that’s way too warm, especially during the summer months? Yup! (Especially if you don’t have A/C.)

Couple having sex

Baby, it’s sweltering outside, and sometimes the thought of getting sweaty with your guy in the midst of a heat wave can bring on thoughts of passing out… and not from ecstasy. Enter our tips for how to put your sexytime session on ice — without dulling the fiery passion.

K-Y Tingling JellyUse a cool-mint lubricant

The advent of summer is as good a reason as any to buy a festive new lube. Pick up a quicker-slicker-upper that features a hint of mint, like mint-scented K-Y Tingling Jelly ($11 for 5 ounces; drugstore.com) or flavored ID Juicy Lube Cool Mint ($10 for 3.8 ounces; walgreens.com). Both contain glycerin, though, so if you’re prone to yeast infections, stick with your usual lube and get creative by blowing cool air on key sensitive places, like his neck or inner thighs.

Hot weather and soaked-with-sweat sheets call for what? This one’s a no-brainer: Raid your freezer and come back to bed with a bowl of ice. Trail a cube or two down his chest (or arms or legs…) and watch the runoff trickle down his skin. Follow the path with your tongue for some extra fun.

EO Grapefruit & Mint Body LotionSlather on an exhilarating body lotion

The sun has a way of sapping your energy, but if you hop out of the shower with sex on the brain, reach for a lotion with ingredients designed to spur you on. Aveda Rosemary Mint Body Lotion ($23 for 6.7 ounces; aveda.com) contains menthol to revitalize your skin, and EO Grapefruit & Mint Body Lotion ($9 for 8 ounces; eoproducts.com) has peppermint that’ll pump you up. Hint: If you’re psychologically in the mood to get down, your body will follow.

C.O. Bigelow's Mentha Lip Shine/Breath FreshenerGive him a frosty kiss

Slicking a little lip gloss on is the simplest of tactics, but it’s oh-so-special when your balm has a little minty zing to it. Try a cooling concoction that he’ll be able to taste when you lock lips, like Eos Beauty’s Sweet Mint Organic Lip Balm ($3; evolutionofsmooth.com) or C.O. Bigelow’s Mentha Lip Shine/Breath Freshener ($8; bigelowchemists.com). If you’re fresh out of cash for beauty products, pop an Altoid before you seduce him with a makeout session.

Offer him a refreshing post-nookie cocktail

An icy adult beverage in bed might even nudge out breakfast as a favorite dish to consume between the sheets. Combine some fresh lemon juice with a little bit of booze, and you’ve got the Midsummer, which, as far as hot-weather drinks go (and super-easy ones at that), is pretty fab, especially post-romp:
