I think a changing table is one of those must-have baby products. I didn't when my son was born, I thought they were a waste of money, but I'm telling you, your back will really thank you if you get a nice changing table. When choosing a changing table, look for the following features...
- A sturdy table with removable guard rails - removable because you won't use a changing table forever, but with removable rails, you can also use it as a dresser.
- Try to get a non-folding table, but if you do buy a changing table that folds, make sure it's always securely open when in use and that it has a super strong locking mechanism so one, it stays open, and two, your baby can't mess with it.
- Get a table with a wide base and/or strong wider legs to prevent your baby from pulling it over.
- Get a table with storage (drawers, baskets, etc) OR Place storage right next to the table. You should never walk away from a changing table while your baby is on it, so it's smart to have all your supplies on hand.
- Pick a table cover or changing mat that's easy to clean or that has a removable washable cover.
- Your changing table should have a safety belt, and you should always use it.
