How to make paper flowers

Tissue paper flowers originated as a Mexican craft for Cinco de Mayo. These traditional decorations are great for casual parties and celebrations — and they make great teacher gifts, too. Teach your kids how to make them for hours of family fun.

What you need:

• Tissue paper
• Stapler
• Pipe cleaners

Steps:

1. Stack sheets of tissue paper neatly, making sure that the ends, sides and creases meet.
2. Fold the stack accordion-style, as if you are creating a paper fan. Each fold should be about one inch wide.
3. Fold the fan in half, end to end.
4. Place a pipe cleaner on the end of the tissue paper, leaving a little extra to wrap around.
5. Staple the pipe cleaner to the tissue paper fan, leaving enough of it for a stem.
6. Fold down the pipe cleaner to create a stem and twist.
7. Start at the top and begin separating the sheets of tissue paper so they fan out. (Be care not to tear the paper.)  Repeat until all sheets are separated.
8. Straighten out or adjust the “petals” one at a time as needed to create a flower.

Stack different colors of tissue paper together to create a rainbow garden!
