Giuliana and Bill Rancic finally win their infertility battle

After suffering through years of infertility, Giuliana and Bill Rancic announced today they are expecting a baby late this summer. Here’s what they had to say about their journey to this pregnancy and the details on how this baby came to be.

Their long journey

As the stars of the hit show Giuliana & Bill, the couple’s very public battle with infertility has served as an example of hope and determination for other couples facing similar heartache.

Fans of the Rancics watched them suffer through several failed IVF treatments, a painful miscarriage, Giuliana’s breast cancer diagnosis and subsequent double mastectomy last year.

Their inspiring optimism

The Rancics, however, remained ever hopeful as they overcame one heartbreak after another. And that optimism is finally paying off.

“This was our last stop,” Bill told the TODAY show’s Ann Curry. “This was it. We had those two embryos that we had banked prior to learning about the breast cancer, and with the medicine she was on, this was our last effort. The prayers were answered.”

Their answered prayers

This baby wouldn’t be joining them this summer if they hadn’t considered all of the family building options available to them.

As Giuliana explained to Curry, “At the end of the day, whether you have a baby naturally, through adoption or surrogacy, it’s your baby… you’re going to love that baby and that’s all that matters.”

That message — that there are many ways to create a family — is one of the important points RESOLVE, the National Infertility Association, is trying to communicate during National Infertility Week, April 22-28.

The options for couples facing infertility

RESOLVE urges those who are struggling with infertility to explore all options when they are trying for a baby. Some of the family building options RESOLVE covers on their website include, beyond drug and infertility treatments, adoption, donor options (specifically egg, sperm and embryo donors) and surrogacy.

Congratulations to Giuliana and Bill on their happy baby news!
