I tried to stay away from Fifty Shades of Grey. I tried not to jump on the bandwagon. I tried really hard.

I failed miserably. I didn’t want to love it. I really didn’t. I downloaded the first book, Fifty Shades of Grey and literally read it in three hours. I couldn’t put it down! We were driving to Boston for a swim meet for my son and I didn’t speak one word in the car, I was flying through the book. When I finished, I instantly needed to download book number two and then book number three. I was addicted and had to see how it ended.

The attraction of the book series for me was that it was different. I’m a romance junkie — I’m all about Danielle Steel and Jackie Collins. This was way new territory for me. This was a twisted love story and I loved it. The writing was horrible — that I will admit — but it was a mindless read. A mindless, shocking read, and it was fun to zone out in the world for a couple of days.

And I will say, my husband didn’t mind the read. 🙂

I’m in the “who cares” school when it comes to reading Fifty Shades of Grey.

I have tons of friends reading it and while I like being able to chat about the “hottest things” conversationally, I just can’t bring myself to care enough to read it. Many readers and critics have been dissing the quality of writing and obviously there are those that don’t mind it.

With my personality, I can totally see myself getting caught up in the fact that the author used the wrong tense of verb regarding the use of whips. Now that just spoils everything!

Personally I just can’t get into a book that makes sex trendy, but is “poorly written.” If I’m going to read a steamy novel, I want the real deal with the right tense, and proper grammar (even if it means having no clue what everyone else is talking about).

Yes I am that person.
