These Traditional ‘Boy’ Names Are Perfect for… Baby Girls

It might feel like you’ve read every baby girl name on Earth and still can’t find one that feels right for your little gal. Well, have you thought about reading the other half of that baby book? Yep, the one “for boys.”

We have some news: Gender-specific names are, well, kind of over. These days, plenty of parents are choosing great names for their kids regardless of which gender that name has been traditionally associated with.

Celebrities are — as usual — leading the baby name trend charge here. Jessica Simpson jumped on the gender-neutral train when she named her daughter Maxwell Drew. She explained that the name is from her husband’s middle name (Maxwell) and her mother’s maiden name (Drew).

Other celebrities have recently given kids a traditionally masculine first name paired with a more feminine middle name: Michelle Branch named her daughter Owen Isabelle, and Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis named their daughter Wyatt Isabelle. Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler, on the other hand, used the “boy” name for the middle; their daughter is named Saylor James Cutler. And Soleil Moon Frye went all-out with daughter Jagger Joseph Blue.

Check out more celebrity baby girls who have gender-neutral or traditionally male names:

  • James: Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ daughter
  • Andy Rose: Jack Osbourne’s daughter
  • Sawyer: Talk cohost Sara Gilbert’s daughter
  • Elliott: George Stephanopoulos’ daughter
  • Emerson: Teri Hatcher’s daughter

  • Dylan: Joe and Heather Nichols’ daughter
  • Jude: Alexis Stewart’s daughter
  • Billie: Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart’s daughter
  • Lou: Heidi Klum’s daughter
