Optimistic Outcomes: What Every Parent Wants and Every Child Needs, written in a spiral cookbook style, doesn't offer the typical rice and cake recipes; it offers recipes for successful parenting. Optimistic OutcomesFrom the Optimistic Outcomes website: "Maureen McKay is a mom who loves kids and wants them to reach their potential. With a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences and a passion for parenting, Maureen is on a mission to reveal the secrets of preparing children for the ultimate goal– successful independence... Disappointed by the lack of tangible strategies and the overabundance of theories available to parents, Maureen began researching. She decided to bridge the gap between knowing a child has a difficulty and knowing how to overcome the problem." Maureen's goal with this book is to help parents:
  • Reduce stress at home
  • Improve learning
  • Help develop life skills
  • Prepare children for life
I'm not usually the biggest fan of books that stress "improved learning" -- they tend to stress one type of learning for all children. I don't agree with that because kids are individuals. This book sounds like it has a different take:
"Our brains are different. All of us are designed to acquire information differently. Each learning style results in people with various interests and talents. Learning is more fun and effective when we tap into multiple learning styles."
Also, the books and website stress that this is not a read from cover to cover deal. Like a good cookbook you can skip around and try different tatics for parenting. It sounds interesting. You can visit Optimistic Outcomes to learn more. If you've read this book let me know in the comments, I'd be interested to know what you think of it.
