Toxoplasmosis...
Toxoplasmosis is a parasite disease spread by cat feces. If this disease passes over to your baby through the placenta during pregnancy, eye and / or central nervous system damage can occur. The CDC recommends guidelines that will help you to avoid toxoplasmosis during pregnancy, that include:
- Wearing gardening gloves when gardening or working in the dirt outside.
- If something in your kitchen (knife, cutting board, your hands, etc) touches raw meat make sure the item is washed very well in hot water and soap.
- Because many food items can be contaminated, wash all fruits and veggies thoroughly. Cook all meat to an internal temperature of 160° F and until it is no longer pink in the center or until the juices become colorless.
- Keep your cat indoors and have someone else change the litter box while you're pregnant.
