A new study from New Zealand and British scientists says that pregnant women may be responsible for more than their own weight gain during pregnancy. fresh_vegetableThe study reports that when pregnant mamas eat poorly it has correlation with their child being obese later on in life. The scientists think that when a baby lacks proper nutrients in the womb the fetus perhaps makes a prediction that nutrient supplies may be low all the time and his metabolism will set itself accordingly -- which means that the fetus's metabolism will set at a level to conserve and store fat. This experiment has only been conducted on animals so obviously further research is necessary before a solid conclusion is reached. But it sort of makes sense. If you don't eat your adult body will condition itself to store fat. However, metabolism can change so I'll be waiting for the scientists to discuss this portion.
