Ah, New Year's Eve. Wine, mixers, and pregnancy! Yikes. No alcohol for you if you're expecting. That's doesn't mean you shouldn't get a little something sparkling to ring in the New Year though. Try some of these drinks offered by offered by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). If none of these drinks suit your fancy, visit the MADD website for plenty of other great ideas. new-years-drink.jpgWhite Zin Raspberry Fooler 4 ounces alcohol-free white zinfandel (see cook's notes) 1/2 ounce pureed and strained raspberries (see cook's notes) 2-1/2 ounces lemon-lime soda 1/2 ounce grenadine (see cook's notes) 1 teaspoon sugar Cracked ice.
  • Put all ingredients in tall glass.
  • Stir to combine.
Cook's notes: Most "alcohol-free" wine contains less that 1/2 of 1 percent alcohol by volume. It is often labels "de-alcoholized." To make raspberry puree, process frozen (thawed) or fresh raspberries until pureed, then strain to remove seeds. Grenadine is pomegranate syrup. Make sure you use one that doesn't contain alcohol. White Velvet 2 to 3 ounces non-alcoholic beer or malt beverage 2 to 3 ounces de-alcoholized dry white wine Combine "beer" and "wine" in roughly equal measure (to taste) in a champagne flute or tulip glass. Makes one serving. Chocolate Amaretto Creme 1/2 cup evaporated milk 1/4 cup club soda 1/2 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder 2 to 3 packets sweetener 1/4 teaspoon almond extract 1 dash bitters 1 to 2 ice cubes
  • Combine all ingredients in blender.
  • Blend on high for 10 seconds, until smooth and creamy.
  • Pour into cocktail glass and serve with straw.
  • Makes one 6 ounces serving.
Fuzzy Noel 3/4 cup peach sorbet 1/3 cup orange juice 1 cup sparkling water 3/8 teaspoon almond extract crushed ice
  • Blend sorbet, juice and extract until smooth.
  • Stir in sparkling water.
  • Pour over crushed ice and serve.
