This week has been a little nutty. I caught some bizarre summer flu, plus I'm moving soon (egad) so it's been busy on top of nutty. Hopefully your week is going well and you're ready for this week's random names... Baby girl name: Jill; form of Gillian, which in turn is a form of Julia, which means... female form of Julius which along with Gillian had many nicknames that were widespread in 12th-15th century Britain. Jill, from the popular nursery rhyme Jack and Jill was one of these nicknames. Gillian in its worst form meant 'wench or flirt' but at its most popular was based off of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet (Jill being a variation of Juliet). WHEW! Baby boy name: Chandler; from the French, chandelle, 'candle', thus 'a maker or seller of candles, a dealer in special goods', like Barber, an old occupational name. Both of these names are drenched in history, Jill more-so though. I like Jill, although I knew a fairly annoying Jill in elementary school which kind of kills it for me. I still like it though. Chandler was my favorite character on that old show Friends but I'm not sure I'd name a baby this. I have a feeling everyone might assume it was based on that TV show. Also, it always seemed like a last name to me, more than a first name. This weeks names, all in all, are pretty good though. What do you think? See more cool baby names.
