Current guidelines from the World Health Organization recommend women delay getting pregnant for at least six months after a miscarriage, but a new study says that should be changed. Doctors in Scotland recently followed nearly 31,000 women who had a miscarriage during their first pregnancy and subsequently became pregnant again. What the researchers found is that 85% of women who got pregnant within six months of a miscarriage when on to have a healthy baby. When women waited more than two years to become pregnant again their shot at having a healthy baby dropped to 73%. One study author notes that due to these findings, the older WHO recommendations to wait after a miscarriage to conceive should be changed. This same study author also notes that the old WHO guidelines are based on a study from Latin America, where women usually have children at a younger age than in the West. *Learn more about this new research.
