Pro-life vs. pro-choice is a huge topic; one that we won't start debating here. However, since both babies and abortions do occur, you may be interested in a new study that notes, "Having an abortion does not increase the risk of mental health problems, but having a baby does." This is interesting news since often you hear rumors about abortion stress and therapy needed and so on. Well, this new research, conducted by Danish scientists found that postpartum depression is a much more likely cause of stress than abortion for women. The researchers found that within the first year after an abortion, about 15 women out of 1,000 sought out psychiatric counseling. New mamas had a higher rate of seeking out psychiatric counseling - about 7 new mamas in 1,000. This study may not seem that surprising, because yes, babies are somewhat stressful for many parents. However, this study also debunks the issue of abortion being a crazed stress inducer - an argument often placed on women by the pro-life supporters. Abortion and babies are personal choices, but you should know that both have the ability to cause stress, not simply one or the other.
