Oh yes, someone was at it again: Putting a major decision to public vote. This time it was selecting a baby's name one Facebook. Hey, it almost seems like a great idea when compared to asking the Internet, "Should we have an abortion?" Perspective, right?! I read about this a while ago, while the naming was still out for a vote. It seems now that 20,000 people voted on Facebook to choose a baby's name. A social commerce site, FabFind, set up the Facebook page for the (then-expecting) mom, Rommy Alpinelli. So, are you curious about the name?
Melania. With 2,862 votes, Melania won by a mere nine votes. Was this mom off her rocker? Probably not. Alpinelli explains,
"At first I was a little apprehensive,” said Alpinelli on Wednesday from her room at Humber River Regional hospital. “What if it was a name I didn’t like? But then there were rules in place, like no vulgar names, and things like that.”Well, at least there were rules, right?! And people have done crazier things, like given their babies odd names on their own -- Apple, anyone? The good news is that Alpinelli was happy with the name Facebook voters chose:
“I love it,” said Alpinelli. “There’s something different about it. It’s very pretty. It’s feminine, but strong for when she gets older.”I'm not brave enough to put such a vote to the Internet, even if there were name voting rules in place! What about you?
