I wrote an article for Sheknows this week, Why you shouldn't give your kids too many holiday gifts. I firmly believe that over-buying for kids during the holidays is a huge mistake. Sadly, it is one I learned the hard way -- by buying them too many gifts...all year long! On a positive note, I learned it while my children were very young If you celebrate Christmas and you have a new baby, be reasonable (says the mom who was anything but reasonable)! I think the best way to get into a good habit of reasonable gift-giving in general is to start by being sensible when buying Christmas gifts for your baby if you're a new parent. You might be rolling your eyes and thinking, "You can't go overboard with a baby! Plus, they don't even know yet!" While your new baby won't know, it's the habit you are creating for yourself that matters. And I know I'm not the only new parent who went a little crazy for each of my kids' First Christmas. It is especially easy to over-buy if you had your first baby during the last year. I think most moms are prone to overdoing it lots of things with their first baby. Or was that just me?! Do you need gift ideas for your baby's First Christmas? (Yes, I capitalized "first!" Because the First Christmas is a big deal!) Check back later today. I'll share a few reasonable gift suggestions for your baby's First Christmas -- both fun gifts and gifts that are meaningful.
