Get Yourself Up And Moving!
Question: I have a really hard time getting motivated to work out. Any
suggestions?
Answer: Lack of motivation is a very common barrier to exercise, so my suggestion is to set small goals for yourself and gradually work into exercise.
For example, the first week, post a note on your bulletin board or refrigerator that says, "I will go for a 15 minute walk Monday and Thursday (or whatever days work for you)" and once you accomplish that goal, treat yourself to the current issue of a fitness magazine for inspiration.
The second week, post a note that says, "I will go for a
20 minute walk on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday" then treat yourself to
a warm bath at the end of the week. The third week, post a note that
says, "I will go for a 20 minute walk on Monday and Wednesday, and I
will do a pregnancy workout video on Friday" then treat yourself to a
bottle of your favorite body wash or lotion. You get the idea! You can
do these workouts alone or with a friend. Think of your workouts as a
gift to yourself and to your growing baby -- you'll be setting a
wonderful example of healthy living for your family. ![]()
