This week's doctor visit came with more surprising news: I am already 50 percent effaced and dilated one centimeter. She said that my labor should be fairly quick as well. The baby's head is down pretty low. Because my blood pressure is still good, they will let me try to labor on my own, and only do a C-Section if they see the baby under any unordinary stress. However, she said they wouldn't let me go past June 1st without inducing my labor. So, I guess that means within 3 weeks, I'll be a mommy!
I went for an ultrasound today because my doctor ordered a Biophysical Profile, which as I understand, measures the amniotic fluid, and looks for the baby's movements in relation to the heart rate. While we were watching, the baby opened his mouth really wide, and opened and shut his eyes! It was so bizarre to watch. The technician said that he is measuring 37 weeks (which she claims isn't too accurate at this point anyway) and weighs approximately 7 pounds 2 ounces. So, apparently this will be a big baby after all!
While lying in bed last night, the baby was doing his usual moving, kicking, and hiccupping. I felt him run a limb across my stomach, and when I reached down to feel it, I could feel the bottom of his entire foot! It was so cool that I immediately grabbed my husband's hand and put it on my stomach so he could feel it too. The baby did it again just for daddy. I'll never forget that feeling!
I think I'm as prepared as I'm going to be at this point. I stocked up on
some frozen foods at the grocery store this week. Although the house could
still use some organizing and cleaning, everything else is pretty much in
place. Thank goodness! If my doctor ordered me to bed rest tomorrow, I
think I'd agree quite happily. All I want to do is lay around and read
until this baby makes his appearance.
