Old Wives' Tales May Help You Guess Baby's Gender

Should you be buying pink or blue for your boy or girl? Whether it’s your first pregnancy or your fifth, finding out the sex or of your baby is an exciting and anxious moment. Can’t wait for the official ultrasound to hear the news? Or, maybe you’re waiting for the ultimate surprise at the delivery. Either way, have fun with these wives’ tales and guess your baby’s gender before you find out for sure.

You may be having a girl if:

  • You are craving sweets or fruit (candy, ice cream, bananas, apricots)
  • A ring hanging from a string over your belly moves in circles
  • You feel less-than-beautiful during your pregnancy (perhaps the baby is stealing your beauty!)
  • You carry high and wide
  • Your belly looks more like a watermelon than a basketball
  • Your Linea Nigra (the dark line that some women see on their bellies during pregnancy) runs from your pubic bone to your belly button
  • Your hair is duller and drier than normal
  • You experienced morning sickness regularly
  • Your left breast appears larger than your right
  • You tend to sleep on your right side
  • Your skin looks worse when you're pregnant (as in, you start getting pimples)
  • Cold feet are not among your pregnancy complaints
  • The year of conception and the mother’s age are both odd or both even numbers
  • The baby’s heart rate is 140 or higher
  • Your nails are weaker and more brittle than before
  • Your rear-end looks pretty much the same now as it did pre-pregnancy
  • Your face becomes rounder and more plump
  • You can eat a clove of garlic and the smell does not linger
  • You avoid eating the ends of a loaf of bread
  • You dream of having a boy

You may be having a boy if:

  • You are craving salty or sour foods (pretzels, olives, cottage cheese)
  • A ring hanging from a string over your belly moves back and forth
  • You feel more beautiful during your pregnancy
  • You carry low and in front
  • Your belly looks more like a basketball than a watermelon
  • Your Linea Nigra runs from your pubic bone to your rib cage
  • Your hair grows faster and darker than usual
  • You did not experience morning sickness for any length of time
  • Your right breast appears larger than your left
  • You tend to sleep on your left side
  • Your skin is clear and beautiful during your pregnancy
  • Your feet feel colder when you’re pregnant
  • The year of conception is an odd number and the mother’s age is an even number (or vice versa)
  • The baby’s heart rate is less than 140
  • Your nails grow faster and stronger than before
  • Your rear-end is growing as fast as your belly
  • Your face appears long and narrow rather than full and plump
  • You eat a clove of garlic and can smell it for the rest of the day
  • You want to eat the ends of a loaf of bread
  • You dream of having a girl

Remember, a wives’ tale is defined by Collins English Dictionary as "a belief, usually superstitious or erroneous, passed on by word of mouth as a piece of traditional wisdom." These old wives' tales are not backed up by research, proven or tested in any way. There is no medical science behind these statements. Nonetheless, it’s fun to try and guess the baby’s gender before the truth is revealed!

With my first two, both boys, I was sick the entire pregnancy. I had horrible all day sickness for the first 3 months and then every morning until I delivered. I'm currently pregnat with #3 and don't find out for a few weeks what the sex is, but I've not been sick at all, this pregnancy has been completely different!!

Actually, the one about nausea has been proven (or at least substantiated scientifically.) My personal experience is that my 2 girls caused a great deal of nausea. My boys, as long as I ate regularly and didn't get famished, I never felt nausea. And I craved meatloaf and cheeseburgers with my boys. I couldn't get enough, but I hardly gained any weight with them--2 lbs with my first son and 15 lbs. with my second. My girls, dessert city. But, then again, they're made of sugar and spice ;-)

According to my OB-GYN nurse friends (and they are right 98% of the time), it's how fast the hair grows back after shaving your legs when pregnant that tells: faster, girl; slower or the same, boy. Worked both times for me - two boys (almost never had to shave my legs, which is weird for someone that usually gets 5 o'clock shadow LOL!).

Unfortunately none of those that I tried rang true with me lol. I have had 3 girls, and had 3 very seperate feeling pregnancies. Alas, maybe one day I might figure out what a boy pregnancy might be like lol.

Yes the ring one is true my mom used it when she had her 4 kids to predict the sex of my siblings and each time it was right, I also used the ring theory and it said that i am having a girl and well it apear's that im 100% having a girl. I sware by the ring theory, It has never let anyone i know down...
And as for if your having a girl you experience morning sickness regularly and if your having a boy you dont, that isn't always true, Because i have NOT had morning sickness at all through out my pregnancy and i am carrying a girl..
You cant always rely on websites to guess your baby's gender because every pregnancy is different you could have the symptoms they say of having a gril and and end up with a boy.. So if your tryingt o guess your baby's gender with information off the internet dont get to excited and go out and but things the internet told you to buy because it might not end up being right..

When my mum was pregnant with me, she was craving Salt & Vinegar crisps all the time and Calypo's And my late Grandad told her she was having a girl, And he Was right, so the salty one isnt necessarily right just for the Boy, it also works for Girls x
