Salem Art Association

What it is

The Salem Art Association is a nonprofit organization that promotes art education, art appreciation, and historic preservation in Salem and surrounding communities. As one of the largest art associations in Oregon, they provide art instruction in regional schools, engaging over 11,000 students in art activities each year. They hold Family Art Nights, and annual shows that display student artwork. In order to support the core programs the Salem Art Association is involved in, they hold several fundraising events. Their mission is to enhance the community through inspiring exhibitions and educational art programs.

Why it was founded

Founded in 1919 by a group of community leaders, the Salem Art Association is dedicated to maintaining the importance and history of art in Oregon. Their mission is to “bring art, in all its forms to the community, and bring the community, in all its diversity to the arts in Salem.” SAA hopes to establish Salem as an arts destination.

How it’s making a difference

The SAA brings artists in all media together to put their work on display and to continue to foster their creative efforts.

Rain or shine, the Walk or Run for the Arts 5K will be held for all artists, art lovers and supporters.
