If you work at a desk during pregnancy or spend long periods of time at your home computer try these tips to keep your body comfortable.
- Sitting: To make sitting at your desk more comfortable, use a chair with adjustable armrests, firm cushions, and good lower back support. you can put a firm pillow behind your back to add extra support. If you can't adjust your chair so that your feet rest on the floor you can use a footstool or even phone books in a pinch.
- Lifting: Need to lift a new box of printer paper? If a box is too heavy ask someone to help you out. If you do lift, using correct lifting techniques will save you from a sore back. To lift properly, bend at the knees, not your waist. Hold the box close to you and stand up using the strength of your legs, not your back. Never twist your waist while lifting.
- Standing: If you stand for prolonged periods put one of your feet up on a footrest. switch your feet occasionally. Standing too long can cause blood to pool in your legs, which can lead to dizziness or pain. Frequent breaks can help. Some people swear by support hose and comfortable shoes are a must.
