Becoming parents is a stressful time for many. It brings up all kinds of issues you never even thought about before; parenting styles, time together, and chores can make parenting together a bumpy road. Overall, it's better to try and stay calm through it all. Why be chill: A study last year from Ohio State found out that when married couples fight it causes enough stress to slow down important body processes. Just one harsh half hour fight between couples was enough to slow down the body's ability to heal wounds by at least one day -- maybe more. The last thing you need during the early parenting years is your body shutting down like this. First off, set clear guidelines before your baby even arrives. Knowing what sort of values your partner has about parenting is important. Use the time before your baby is born to discuss parenting methods. After your baby comes, and you disagree, try talking it out, waiting until you're calm to confront, and if nothing else works, seek parenting and couples advice in the form of counseling. Your baby needs the both of you healthy so it pays to take steps that can eliminate fights.
