Thursday at the Society for Gynecologic Investigation annual meeting, in San Diego, the findings of a new study were discussed. HealthDay reports that premature birth seemingly increases a woman's risk of higher cholesterol later on.This is a serious issue since high cholesterol also raises the chances of heart disease - already an issue for women. The prblem seems to occur in women who give birth before 34 weeks. So far the researchers behind the study aren't sure if it's the pregnancy itself or the preterm birth that triggers the cholesterol issue. Since obviously more research is needed, the best thing for you to know, is that if you did have an early delivery, be more diligent about having regular health check-ups and talk to your doctor about any concerns. To learn more about cholesterol, how to lower your levels, and how heart disease affects women, visit the American Heart Association.
